By moving, adding and personalizing widgets.
You can drag and drop to rearrange.
You can edit widgets to customize them.

Some widgets have options that are only available when you get a premium membership.

Fall carries beneath its bold colors and cool sunny days a whisper of the struggle for life that comes with winter. The Hunter's Moon rises from the edge of the prairie, its red a nighttime reflection of the red of blood spilled out during the day over prairie earth and scattered among the forest leaves in the battle to survive. The hunter posted in good cover and perfectly still waits for the fullness of his time, and watches curiously as two long-legged spiders before him each stalk the other in a delicate dance touching lightly, having nothing much to eat. As the afternoon sun gives way to the dim evening light and long shadows, a cooler breeze brushes away what warmth he felt just a short time ago. A shiver signals the end of his wait and with one last look around he breathes a deep sigh and moves out toward home. Nothing to bring back tonight. Perhaps tomorrow will bring something better. The Hunter's Moon, brighter each night than the last, ascends the horizon to the East and displays its dull red color. There is some comfort in its glow.
Yes. Since I grew up as a country boy, I have seen thousands of moons, from sliver to full, and a few eclipses. Like the roses, the moon has always captured my eye. As a whim, I built a large enameled moon. My Drawing class instructor at the college here asked me if I would be interested in doing a show this winter with the Man-In-the-Moon as a theme. So, I have built 11 so far and need to make about 10 more. So, all are different, though a few are similar. I have had to stop and make a hunting knife for a fellow's son as a birthday gift. But, that is nearing completion today...Yippeee! Now I can get back to playing with the moons. I recycle materials and repurpose others, as with the ones made from bicycle parts. So, lots of fun! Smitty
thats awesome!!^^ i really love them. i greatly adore the moon. and love anything that has to do with it. your pieces there...are incredible. good luck with your project^^
You are included in Artisan Crafts DDs for August 2009 because you received a DD last month. If you like it, please fave it so that others can see this wonderful art made by you and the other artists.

O.k., Old dogs and new tricks.... It seemed simple enough after all. Just went to the article location and clicked the heart which grayed out and voila! If that is it, then mission accomplished. If not, then I have more to do. I certainly want to support DA. Thanks so much. I received so many responses to the inclusion of the rose that I am still completely overwhelmed with the task of replying, which I would like to accomplish also out of respect for those who have taken the time to drop me a note. Thanks again, Smitty
Now you know how to fave any news article that you wish. You're also able to undo a fave if you change your mind or accidentally faved it. You're welcome to send me a note if you ever have any other questions or concerns, but also if you have DD suggestions for any artist.

Dear Kitten, I hate to seem no smarter than a zombie... but, how in the heck do I Fave the Artisan Crafts DDs for August 2009? What you have suggested is a good thing. I am not at all sure what the procedure is. If you have the time can you give me a little guidance? Smitty
Yeh, that can be confusing if you're new to dA. To fave a news article, just look to the left and just below the title and you'll see a number counter and underneath that is a little box with a heart in it. Just click on the heart and the box will go grey and the number counter will go up by one. If you ever want to unfave an article and need help, let me know. If you need help with anything or have any questions about the Artisan Crafts gallery or dA in general, just send me a note. Welcome to dA and it was a pleasure to have featured you on August 26th!

Dear Woe... Woe is me. I seem to be suffering from Old Guy Disorder. Will you walk me through how to find the title so that I can click on the heart...etc. I have looked and looked but have not seen what I need to Fave the DD I received. Hate to be so dense!! Smitty
By the title, I meant the title of the article and this one is titled Artisan Crafts DDs for August 2009. To its left is my avatar and underneath that is a box with a number in it ('66' as of today). Underneath that box is a green rectangle with a heart inside it. It's all in a vertical row at the upper left corner of the article. If you click on the green heart box, the number counter will go up one number. You can't fave your own deviation, but you can fave a news article and this news article is a collection of all the DDs for that month.

Dear Lylla, I started one kind of metalwork or another about 30 years ago. And I have always sought to sell whatever it is that I make. I have a website that you might want to go to in order to see more work. I think I have priced the work there. knivesandroses.com The joy in the work though is really in the finished piece. Stay in touch as you might like, buy or no. I surely enjoy the conversation. Smitty
You bet! Even though the rose is metal, it appears to be so delicate. Just what I was hoping for. I will take a look at your work too. looking forward to hearing more from you. Smitty
thank you so much. my honored.. i hope that you love my works. i still learn and need work harder to get great artwork. But, i will do my best. really i hope you enjoy it. again, thank you very much for your kindness.

Wow, I attend a school with a great welding program so sometimes I have to admit, I forget what delicate artwork can be done with metal.

Hello, my name is 54viruses. I am addicted to literature. It has been eleven hours since I last read or wrote...oh, wait...shoot, better luck next time.
Dear Viruses... I started out butchering metal in huge sections in a shipyard back in the 1970's. The work we did was anything but delicate. But, it seemed to me that metal was able to manipulated even in those huge sections. Much has evolved in my work since then. The conflict between the obvious metal and the apparent delicate look is what creates the interest, I think. Stay in touch as you like. Always good to hear from a fellow metal-head. Smitty
Knivesandroses, Thank you for the informative remark. Unfortunately the only metal I work with is pre-shaped into scalpels and needles and such. However; I have wandered in and spoken with the welding students and teachers, sometimes they do seem to have latched onto something interesting.

You are extraordinarily blessed with the talent of manipulating metal. Absolutely lovely.

Blessed is the right word. I am so glad that I have the opportunity to bring about some of what has caught my eye along life's path. Stay in touch from time to time, Smitty

As I fall, and you turn away.
You walk down corridors miles away from heart.
As I breathe, as I surrender...
I hear the sound of whispering.
Your crafts is amazing and I wonder if you sell anything that you make?
